Welcome Rotem, Jayme and Brian❄️
This Winter Term, Baker Lab continues to grow as we welcome Rotem Parran, Jayme Sheriff and Brian Lopez.
Rotem Parran
Rotem completed a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University, specializing in process engineering. She has industry experience in consulting, having worked at Deloitte in mining engineering consulting and at WSP in process engineering consulting. Co supervised by Dr. Gibson’s Critical Minerals Processing Lab, Rotem is currently working on a research project focused on developing electrochemically synthesized rare earth metal flotation collectors.
Jayme Sheriff
Jayme completed her undergraduate degree in the Engineering Chemistry program at Queen’s with a professional internship, where she worked in corrosion prevention engineering at TC Energy in Calgary, Alberta. Jayme completed an undergraduate thesis in Dr. Dominik Barz’s lab in the Chemical Engineering department on the development of a 2D material composite hydrogel for use as supercapacitor electrodes. Now, co-supervised by Dr. Barz for her MASc, she is exploring the use of binder-free activated carbon supercapacitor electrodes, and the addition of organic redox couples to create sustainable battery-supercapacitor hybrid devices.
Brian Lopez Campos
Brian is a Chemical Engineer from San Carlos University of Guatemala and recently completed an Erasmus Mundus MSc in Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering (studying across Poland, Spain, and Finland). He brings experience in the food industry (yeast biotechnology), as well as and water treatment using nanotechnological materials and electrochemical methods. He is currently working on isocyanate production through paired electrolysis, using electrochemically reduced CO₂.
